Hair Regeneration | Micro-grafting Procedure

Regenera Activa( RGA)

Hair loss affects millions of people around the world. It affects both men and women. When you notice that the hair is thinning, the hair follicles have already been shrinking and weakening for some time. If not treated, the situation will only get worse to an irreversible phase.  Therefore, be sure to take action before it’s too late. Generally, hair loss begins on the top of the head and forehead (for men), and prominent parting lines (for women). Once you find abnormal hair loss, you should seek professional consultation immediately.

Hair growth cycle:

Growth period: 1500 days (the hair follicle cells are vigorous and the hair grows about 1 cm per month)

Regressing period: about 2-3 weeks (hair follicle cells stop growing and hair follicles gradually shrink)

Dormant period: about 100 days (new hair starts to grow, old hair is pushed out of the follicle)

The above three stages cycle endlessly. Normally, 50 to 100 pieces of hair are shed every day.

Causes of Hair Loss:

Stress related, dietary causes, drug related, infections and scalp diseases can cause hair loss. However, majority of hair loss are hereditary. Refer to the article on hair loss for more details.

About 75 to 90% of hair loss problems can be attributed to androgenic alopecia. This is a hereditary condition where hair follicles are affected by male hormones (DHT), making the hair shrink prematurely and fall off. The pattern of hair loss in androgenic alopecia are different for men and women. For men, the M shaped hair line first appeared, it will gradually move backward and later affect the vertex of the head. For women, hair thinning on the top of the head is the first symptoms.

Treatment for hair Loss:

Drugs: including oral medications and topicals. The oral drugs is only suitable for male patients to reduce the DHT (male hormones) level. The topical drugs can be used for men and women. It is the only FDA and HK approved drugs for female hair loss. It reverts the hair from a dormant phase back to a growth phase.

Surgery: transplant of a small strip of hair follicles from the back of the head into area of baldness. It takes time (typically 8 hour) and efforts (to cleans and harvest the hair follicle) and it involves surgery and its associated risks

RGA (regenera activa) It uses a technique called autologous micro grafting technique to inject small (micro) capillary graft around hair follicles that need help. It helps the follicles by immunomodulation and promotes hair growth.

What is Regenera Activa (RGA)?

Regenera Activa® is a hair growth treatment that uses regenerative cells extracted from the “micro-grafts” harvested from your scalp to stimulate the other areas that are losing hair. The micrograft solution has the cell proliferation, and high angiogenic potential to promote a regenerative tissular environment. This is a safe alternative to treat the problem of androgenetic alopecia in just one session a year.

How is Regenera Activa (RGA) Done?

After scalp examination and analysis by our specialist, she will formulate a customised, personalised Regenera Activa (RGA) hair growth treatment. The whole treatment only takes about 30 minutes. A small amount of stromal vascular cells are extracted from the hair follicles behind the ear, which has the healthiest hair follicles and the least chance of being attacked by androgen DHT.

Using advanced microdissection technology, the primary cells and stromal growth factors are extracted with a special machine. The extract is then injected into treatment area. It drives the revascularization of the scalp, rebuilding a healthy scalp and giving birth to thick, dark hair. The technique is also important in terms of the position, angle and depth of each injection, which will also affect the effect of hair regeneration.

Is Regenera Activa(RGA) Safe?

Regenera Activa (RGA) has been certified by FMA in Japan and CE in Europe, and has been registered and listed by FDA in the United States.

How long does the effect last? How long is the recovery time? Will there be scar on scalp?

Studies have shown that a single session of Regenera Activa (RGA) can activate up to 500cm2 of hair loss on the entire head (equivalent to the size of 2 palms). The hair becomes thicker, longer and denser 30 days after treatment, and the effect lasts for up to two years. Treatment is minimal invasive and have a short recovery period. The doctor will apply local anesthesia to the donor site behind the ear to reduce the pain from the process, while temporary discomfort and redness may occur at the site of the scalp injection.

What are the side effects of Regenera Activa(RGA)

As the graft is from oneself, the risk of rejection and allergy is very minimal. There may be temporary discomfort and redness of the scalp during treatment and shortly afterwards.

Treatment effects vary from person to person. Seek professional advice from a dermatologist now if you experience hair loss.
